REGINA — A 41-year-old man charged in connection to a shooting that left an 11-year-old girl with serious injuries made his first appearance in a Regina courtroom Friday.
Michael Mayer was remanded in custody and his matter was adjourned to Sept. 26 to give him time to get counsel.
Mayer is charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 11 when Regina Police Service officers were dispatched to a home in in the 1000 block of Edgar Street shortly after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they found an 11-year-old girl inside the home suffering a gunshot wound. She was taken to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.
Two other men, Anthony Nahbexie, 20, and Devon Nahbexie, 18, were previously charged in the same investigation. Both also remain in custody and are scheduled to return to court on Sept. 26.
They face similar charges of attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, conspiracy to commit murder, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Devon Nahbexie is additionally charged with two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
