BATTLEFORDS – A Wilkie woman pleaded not guilty in Unity Provincial Court to charges stemming from a 2023 incident where a dog is reported to have attacked a person.
Tara Lynn Pritchard, 44, appeared self-represented on Sept. 15 to face two charges under municipal law, as well as a separate charge of failing to appear in court. The matter was adjourned to Oct. 20 to set a trial date and allow the Crown time to provide disclosure of evidence to the accused.
According to court documents, the case originates from May 11, 2023, when Pritchard was initially charged. The first charge under The Municipalities Act 376(4), states she was the owner of an animal that, without provocation, attacked, assaulted, wounded, bit, injured, or killed a person. A second charge was laid the same day under the Municipalities Act 375(1)(c) that the animal without provocation, bit, inflicted injury, assaulted or otherwise attacked a person.
Pritchard was scheduled to make her first court appearance on July 17, 2023, but failed to appear. The Unity RCMP then charged her in August 2023 with one count of failing to appear in court.
