REGINA — The Regina Police Service (RPS) has provided an overview of the work done by the Alternative Response Officers (AROs).
In a report, the RPS says the AROs have attended over 1,800 calls for service, given 595 warnings and transported over 250 people to the complex needs shelter since the program rolled out in October 2024.
The AROs have also “made over 2000 business contacts (about half of those in the Cornwall Centre), transported 61 prisoners and attended over 110 community events.”
Requests for the team during events increased over the summer as AROs patrolled events like the Queen City Exhibition and Regina Farmers’ Market.
The RPS is currently working on training more AROs, with the goal of having 14 to 16 officers total in the program.
