ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service and Estevan Emergency Medical Services were called to a sudden death on the weekend.
According to the Sept. 20 report from the EPS, the death was determined to be non-suspicious in nature. In an email to SaskToday, the EPS said the deceased was a senior citizen. Officers assisted on-scene and facilitated the coroner's investigation.
In other recent police news, the EPS received a report Sept. 19 of a fraud involving cheques being fraudulently written on an account. A statement was obtained and the matter remains under investigation.
A report of a fraud at a local business was received involving several bitcoin transactions. The matter also remains under investigation.
The EPS reminds the public that if someone you are unfamiliar with contacts you looking for personal or financial information, it is likely an attempt to defraud a potential victim. Always confirm the identity of the caller and never share details unless you are certain it is a legitimate transaction.
A theft of multiple items from the change rooms at the Estevan Leisure Centre's pool was reported Sept. 20. A youth was located a short time later and was in possession of some stolen money. He was arrested and charged, and will attend court at a later date.
Police conducted a compliance check on a male required to maintain a curfew. The individual was not present at home as required and as a result, a charge for breaching his conditions was laid.
EPS members attended to a report of a male hiding in a backyard. On arrival, nobody was located on the property, but a male youth was found a short distance away and is believed to have been the subject of the complaint.
A report of a loud noise, believed to be a gun shot going off, was received from the outskirts of the city. Members attended the area immediately but no persons or evidence were located and the EPS said no additional loud noises occurred.
A report of a possibly impaired driver was investigated by patrol members during night shift. The vehicle was located and the driver was determined to not be impaired, however the motorist admitted to being distracted when they dropped an item in their vehicle. The driver was warned about their driving actions.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance Sept. 21 in which an ex-partner was present at a residence and refused to leave. On arrival, police escorted the male off the property and cautioned him against returning without permission.
A gas drive-off was investigated by patrol division members and the vehicle owner was located. The driver believed their credit card had worked when paying for fuel, and indicated to be unaware that payment had not been received. The driver returned to the service station and paid for the purchase.
A report of criminal harassment through multiple Facebook postings was received and is currently being investigated.
Police attended to a residence on the west side of the city to mediate a situation involving a family and their teenage son.
A request for a well-being check on a female resulted in her arrest for impaired driving as well as under the Mental Health Act based on her behaviour. She was transported to the hospital where she was not co-operative with staff and as a result, she was lodged in cells until sober.
A request for a well-being check on another female resulted in her being located after having missed several days of work. She was found to be safe and well.
