The Toronto Blue Jays have officially clinched a post season spot and they’re hoping to clinch another record tonight as thousands of fans attempt to break the hot dog consumption record.
Every Tuesday home game, the Rogers Centre ball park sells Schneider’s hot dogs for a loonie, which has proven to be quite popular amongst fans. So far this year, fans have eaten 733,412 hot dogs on loonie dog night, which is up from just over 727 thousand consumed last year. As it stands right now, the current record for a Tuesday loonie dog night is 96,333 hog dogs eaten by just over 42 thousand people, which is nearly 2.5 hot dogs per person.
Tonight, the Blue Jays are hoping to break that record by reaching 100 thousand hot dogs sold and eaten at a single game, which, if accomplished, would reach sales of 800 thousand hot dogs in a single season. In addition, one thousand fans will also get a special t-shirt commemorating the loonie dog night.
The 90-66 Toronto Blue Jays will take on the 85-71 Boston Red Sox tonight in Toronto at 5:05pm Saskatchewan time. The Red Sox have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games while the Blue Jays have gone 6-4 in their last 10. The Blue Jays are the first American League team to clinch a playoff spot while Milwaukee and Philadelphia have both clinch playoff spots in their divisions in the National League.
