REGINA — Regina Police Service says one female youth and two male youths are facing charges following an incident involving bear spray outside a school in the city.
At approximately 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Sept. 25, school resource officers (SROs) were called to a school in the 400 block of Fines Drive for a report of weapons offence involving bear spray. F.W. Johnson Collegiate is located on that block.
Police say they were told two female youths outside the school had been assaulted with bear spray and the suspects had fled the scene. On their way to the scene, they advised the school to enter “secure-the-building.” Once it was determined there was no further threat to students in the school, “secure the building” mode was lifted. SROs, with the assistance of various other units, located and arrested three youths.
The two victims were treated on scene for exposure to bear spray.
Three 16-year-old youths, who cannot be named in keeping with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are jointly charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. All three will make their first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Youth Court on Nov. 10.
