BENSON — Estevan conservation officers are investigating the recent death of at least one moose.
According to a Sept. 25 post on the Sasktip Facebook page, on Aug. 23, the conservation officers became aware of a bull moose that had been unlawfully harvested south of Benson at land location NW 33-04-08 W2.
The Facebook post says suspects had driven through and damaged two standing wheat fields and one standing canola field. The post added the bull moose was dragged a short distance through a wheat field before being field dressed. Only the head and gut pile remained.
The investigation also found a possible second kill site, leading officers to believe that a second moose may have been harvested. An empty box of Player’s cigarettes with Manitoba stamps was also located. The moose are believed to have been harvested between 6 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 8 a.m. the following day.
A cash reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the individuals involved. Anyone with information about this crime should contact the provincial toll-free Turn In Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561.
