SASKATOON – In a co-ordinated international effort, the Saskatchewan RCMP have extradited a 69-year-old Saskatoon-area man from London, UK, to face multiple historical sexual offence charges in Canada.
Earl Warren, formerly of the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment area, was returned to Canadian soil on Sept. 17, after evading court proceedings for more than two years. His extradition was facilitated by Interpol, the London Metropolitan Police Service, and a coalition of Canadian agencies including the International Assistance Group, Saskatchewan Public Prosecutions, and the Canadian Border Services Agency.
Warren had been the subject of a Canada-wide warrant since May 2023, when he failed to appear before the Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench.
Investigators determined he had fled the country and was living in London. Following an investigation by the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment, an international alert was issued, and extradition proceedings began shortly after. Earlier this month, the UK’s High Court denied Warren’s appeal against removal, clearing the way for RCMP officers to escort him back to Canada.
“This is an example of an individual attempting to evade the Canadian judicial process,” said Saskatoon RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Michelle Bonstrom. “We’re thankful that, through our work with international partners, we were successful in bringing him back to Canada to face his charges,”
Warren was originally arrested in October 2020 following a report received by Saskatoon RCMP in December 2019. He faces three counts of sexual assault and four counts of invitation to sexual touching of a minor, stemming from incidents reported to have occurred between 2010 and 2017 in Saskatchewan.
Warren remains in custody and is scheduled to appear via CCTV in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench on Oct. 24.
Saskatchewan RCMP arranged the extradition of Warren in partnership with the International Assistance Group, Saskatchewan Public Prosecutions, the National Crime Agency in London, UK, as well as the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), Alberta RCMP Air Services and the Airdrie RCMP Detachment.
