REGINA–The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has been called in to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred late Thursday night in Regina.
According to the Regina Police Service, the incident took place around 11:00 p.m. in the 3000 block of East Haughton Road.
During the course of an active investigation, officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding an individual.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
Under the Saskatchewan Police Act, 1990, SIRT is mandated to investigate serious incidents involving police officers, including those resulting in death or serious injury. SIRT is an independent, civilian-led oversight body tasked with ensuring transparency and accountability in such cases.
Due to the active nature of the investigation, the Regina Police Service has stated that no further details will be provided at this time. Updates will be released by SIRT as more information becomes available.
