PRINCE ALBERT — One man has been arrested and faces a number of firearms-related charges following an evade police incident over the weekend.
At around 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 27, while on routine patrol, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Second Avenue West and 15th Street West.
The vehicle did not stop and began to evade police heading southbound on 2nd Avenue West.
Police did not continue to pursue the vehicle to ensure public safety.
Later that night, officers were able to locate the vehicle parked and unoccupied outside a residence in the 500 block of 27th Street East.
Officers began to search the residence where the male driver was located and arrested him without further incident.
During a search of the vehicle, police located two firearms, assorted items consistent with drug trafficking, bear spray, and marijuana.
A further search of the suspect’s person resulted in police seizing $650 Canadian currency.
As a result of this investigation, the 27-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving, evading police, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, and multiple firearms offences.
He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Sept. 29.
