UNITY — Unity RCMP received a report of suspicious activity in the rural community of Salvador, around 9:25 a.m. on Sept. 24. A male was seen entering a black truck and heading southbound on Highway 31 out of Salvador, followed by a report of a stolen vehicle matching the description of the black truck.
Between the Unity RCMP and the Luseland Police Service responding, the LPS located the vehicle near Salvador and initiated a traffic stop, which the suspect vehicle then fled from police. The Unity RCMP were made aware that civilian vehicles were following the stolen black truck- they were told not to intervene.
Another report was made, stating the black truck was abandoned in a rural area near Denzil. Officers recovered the vehicle but the suspect was not located in the area.
Later in the day, Unity RCMP received a separate report of a grey truck being stolen in the Denzil area. Officers responded and located the vehicle in the Town of Unity with no occupants inside. As the investigation continued, Unity RCMP located and arrested a 29-year-old male at a nearby residence in Unity.
He has been charged with:
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
- two counts, theft of motor vehicle, Section 333.1, Criminal Code; and
- one count, failure to comply with undertaking condition, Section 145(4), Criminal Code.
He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court, Sept. 29.
