REGINA – Three people are in custody after Regina police responded to a report of a firearm on a city street early Tuesday morning.
On Sept. 30, at approximately 1:50 a.m., police were called to a business on the 1800 block of 9th Avenue North after getting a report of two men running up and down the street wielding a shotgun.
The caller told police the suspects hid the firearm behind a garbage bin before entering a business. Officers arrived and located a sawed-off shotgun behind a garbage bin.
They found and arrested two men inside the business who matched the descriptions provided. A short time later, a third male suspect was located and arrested while walking down Broad Street North. A police search revealed he was carrying a sawed-off rifle.
Just before this incident, officers were flagged down by a rideshare driver on Broad Street near 5th Avenue North. The driver reported he had been assaulted and threatened with what appeared to be a machete by three male passengers before he stopped his vehicle on Broad Street near 5th Avenue North and ordered them out of his vehicle, which they did.
Police determined that one of the men arrested in connection with the weapons offence was also the suspect involved in the assault of the rideshare driver.
As a result of the investigation, three people were charged.
Noah Blind, 18, is charged with possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
