ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service handled a variety of calls during the final days of September and the first few days of October.
EPS members attended to several areas in central Estevan Oct. 2 on the report of a suspicious male acting strangely. The male, who is known to police, was spoken to without issue and asked to leave the area.
A report was received of a dirt bike being ridden along a walking path in north Estevan. Patrol members observed the bike being operated at a distance but were unable to make contact with the operator or determine their identity. The EPS reminds the public that operation of unregistered off-road motorized vehicles within city limits is an offence under the traffic bylaw. Anyone observing individuals operating these vehicles in the city is asked to file a report with the EPS, including all available details about the location, vehicle and operator.
Several packages were reported stolen from a porch in central Estevan. The matter remains under investigation.
An individual was declined service and advised to leave a business in the downtown area after causing a disturbance. The subject left the scene prior to police arrival and was spoken to a short distance away. He will be issued a trespass notice to not attend the property in the future.
Members attended to separate reports Oct. 1 of domestic disturbances at residences in north-central and central Estevan. In both instances, those involved were spoken to and the matters were resolved without further incident.
A complaint came in of two tires being slashed on a vehicle. It is currently under investigation.
The EPS received a report of a male possibly carrying a firearm at a local business. The male had left the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. A traffic stop was conducted a short time later on the suspect vehicle and a cigarette lighter in the shape of a firearm was located. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on an unrelated warrant and also issued a ticket for driving while suspended.
A report of individuals possibly breaking into an abandoned downtown business was received. Members attended and nobody was found at the scene. The building was secure.
A report was received Sept. 30 of a residential break and enter that occurred sometime in the previous two days in south Estevan. Several items are reported to have been taken from the residence. The matter remains under investigation.
A citizen reported two young children playing on the roof of a residence in central Estevan. Members attended and spoke with a parent, who was warned regarding the potential for them to be hurt while on the roof.
A suspicious male was reported walking north of the Estevan Comprehensive School. Members attended and spoke with the individual. No criminal activities were identified.
Members were called to a residence to remove a youth that was causing a disturbance. On arrival, a mediated resolution was reached and several youths were sent on their way.
An investigation into a female entering parked vehicles resulted in EPS members locating her a short time later. No stolen property was located on her; she was cautioned about her actions and sent on her way.
A reported break and enter to a residence resulted in police attending and clearing the building. Nobody was located and no sign of forced entry existed; the report is believed to have been unfounded.
Multiple checks were completed on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions. All those checked were found to be in compliance.
The EPS received a report Sept. 29 of a male looking through the windows at a business where young adults are employed. The matter is under investigation.
Police responded to two alarm reports, both of which were determined to be false.
Members responded to a report of youths committing mischief by kicking over garbage cans full of refuse. Patrols of the area immediately following the report did not locate suspects in the occurrence.
Police were called to assist in removing an unwanted guest from a residence. On members’ arrival, the individual left without incident.
A domestic disturbance investigation resulted in one individual being arrested for assault. He was lodged in cells to be released on conditions by a justice of the peace.
A report of several youths smoking marijuana outside of a residence in the south part of the city was received. The matter is under investigation.
