SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man charged with first-degree murder last year is now facing a new, unrelated charge of trafficking fentanyl – laid a year after his arrest in the homicide investigation.
Edin Dion Vrazalica, now 35, was scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Oct. 6 on the drug trafficking charge and the matter was adjourned to later this month.
Vrazalica is still facing charges of first-degree murder and offering an indignity to human remains in connection with the death of 25-year-old Lee Perkins from Alberta.
These charges were laid in February 2024 and sent by direct indictment to Saskatoon Court of King’s bench, bypassing a preliminary hearing.
The murder investigation began on Feb. 3, 2024, when Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) launched an aggravated assault investigation involving firearms at a home on Lisgar Avenue in the Pacific Heights neighbourhood. During the execution of a search warrant, Vrazalica allegedly confronted police and was shot by an officer. He was hospitalized in stable condition. Inside the home, officers discovered Perkins’ body. Court documents say his remains were mutilated and contorted to fit into a Rubbermaid tote.
Two other individuals are also facing charges in connection with Perkins’ death.
Dillon Henry Singler, 34, is charged with first-degree murder. He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 25 – 26, but his case was sent directly to King’s Bench to set a trial date.
Chantal McLaren, 34, is also charged with first-degree murder. Her jury trial is scheudled for May 2026 on that charge. She also faces fentanyl trafficking charges, with a pre-trial hearing set for February 2026.
Court documents reveal that both McLaren and Vrazalica were living at the home at 610 Lisgar Avenue, whereas Singler was of no fixed address.
