SONNINGDALE — Saskatchewan conservation officers are investigating after a moose was illegally shot near Sonningdale.
They have identified suspects linked to an unlawful moose harvest southwest of Sonningdale, but the investigation is ongoing.
At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Oct. 4, North Battleford conservation officers received a call reporting a moose had been unlawfully harvested on the #784 grid road. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles at the scene — a grey Dodge Ram and a black Dodge Ram truck. Photos were taken of the suspects and vehicles, but they had left before police arrived.
The investigation uncovered multiple violations, including serious safety offences such as shooting along or across a highway and hunting within 500 metres of an occupied dwelling.
Investigating officers have advised that a couple of the individuals have since been identified, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Conservation officers are continuing their work to confirm details of the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Turn In Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561. Calls are not recorded or traced, and callers may remain anonymous. Those providing information leading to arrests or convictions may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
