REGINA — On Oct. 4 every year, Sisters in Spirit vigils and walks are held across Canada to honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.
“This walk is meaningful to the families, the community and the many Regina Police Service employees who investigate the files and work with the families,” said the Regina Police Service (RPS) on social media. “It unites us all and supports the process of healing.”
At the walk, Tamra Keepness was one of the missing remembered.
On July 6, 2004, then-five-year-old Tamra Jewel Keepness was reported missing. She was last seen at her home in the 1800 block of Ottawa Street at approximately 11 p.m. on July 5, 2004.
The Regina Police Service say they have conducted hundreds of interviews and followed up on thousands of tips and leads. This work continues to this day, says the RPS.
“In spite of these efforts, Tamra Keepness has not been located and we still do not have an explanation as to how or why she disappeared.”
In 2004, the Board of Police Commissioners offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the location of Tamra Keepness. That doubled to $50,000 in 2014 and was once again renewed by the Board of Police Commissioners in December 2023.
