In thrilling fashion, the Toronto Blue Jays ended the playoff run of the New York Yankees Wednesday evening after winning game four 5-2. The Blue Jays will advance to the ALCS for the first time since 2016. For Blue Jays fan Dwain Lingenfelter it was an experience of a lifetime.
“Ecstatic that a Canadian team is going to represent us in the finals in the American League and totally excited about it,” beamed Lingenfelter.
The former Saskatchewan MLA and Deputy Premier of Saskatchewan was in New Jersey/New York City as part of the Canadian Wildlife Federation Art Project when he and his wife were able to secure tickets for games three and four of the ALDS, despite reports of very limited ticket sales to Canadians.
“I just bought tickets online and it was very, very easy to do, so that’s what I was curious about because I had heard about the blackout, too, for Canadians,” explained Lingenfelter.
New Yorkers are known around North America as having some of the most passionate sports fans when it comes to hockey, football, and, especially baseball. Overall, Lingenfelter had a positive experience with fans after the game was over.
“We were on the subway back to downtown Manhattan, and I was amazed at how calm and friendly the crowd was on the train, so they’re very reactive, but they’re, obviously, quick to forgive,” he learned.

Game one of the ALCS will be Sunday, Oct 12th against either the Detroit Tigers or the Seattle Mariners. Jays fans will have to wait until Friday night for the fifth and deciding game in that series.
