YORKTON — A long‑time Yorkton Chamber of Commerce employee was given a huge thank‑you at the organization’s Business Dinner Wednesday.
Sherry MacDonald, who, it was pointed out, first set her purse on a desk in the Yorkton Chamber office on Oct. 5, 2005, and hasn’t looked back since, was recognized for her 20 years of “dedicated service to the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.”
“Twenty years. Wow! Wow? Where’s it go?” said MacDonald with a smile.
With a few years of experience working for the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, MacDonald applied for and was offered the admin assistant position at the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, noted Chamber executive director Juanita Polegi.
In 2008, MacDonald was given the title Director of Marketing and Administration.
This more accurately reflected her duties, said Polegi.
MacDonald would later note her time at the Saskatoon Chamber “was no different. We want the best of the community.”
“Administratively, she undertakes those tasks that keep an office and a dynamic organization running smoothly,” she said. “She shines at the marketing side of her duties, meeting with Chamber members and checking in on them — meeting with businesses not yet members to share with them the value proposition of Chamber membership.”
Polegi said she has had “the opportunity to work with Sherry for many years.
“Together we have organized many Chamber events and seen many changes in the Chamber.”
MacDonald said the ‘thank you’ was unexpected, adding over the years so many people have made the position so worthwhile already.
