WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service responded to 89 calls for service during the week of Oct. 5 to 12. The following is a summary of notable incidents from the period.
Uttering threats
On Oct. 5, police received a complaint involving an adult male making repeated phone calls in which he allegedly threatened to harm another individual and damage their property. The suspect was located, arrested and charged, and later released on conditions.
Traffic collision
On Oct. 6, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 39 and Third Street. While no injuries were reported, both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. There were no independent witnesses, and both drivers believed they had the right of way. No tickets were issued.
Driving complaints
Throughout the week, police received an above-average number of complaints about erratic driving, speeding and loud vehicles. In several cases, drivers were issued warnings, while others were charged for speeding or excessive noise.
Police remind the public that if a witness can provide a statement, a licence plate and can identify the driver, charges will be laid directly against that person. If the driver cannot be identified, the registered owner of the vehicle will be charged.
Conditions checks
Officers conducted several checks on individuals subject to court-ordered conditions. Two people were found to be non-compliant and were charged.
Mental health and wellbeing calls
Police responded to eight calls related to mental health or general wellbeing. All situations were resolved peacefully and without further incident.
