For a sixth year, Regina has been named a world tree city, which is an honour given to cities in Canada and around the world who have done an excellent job creating and maintaining urban forests. The city is home to over 500,000 public and private trees capable of removing C02 produced by over 3,300 midsized cars. With all these trees, however, it means lots of leaves falling everywhere during autumn.
To ensure storm drains remain clear and preventing any street flooding, the City of Regina has officially kicked off their fall street sweeping program. City crews will be working in neighborhoods home to large, mature trees, which includes Cathedral, Crescents, Lakeview, General Hospital, and North Central from 4am to 4:30pm, weather permitting.
Residents in street sweeping neighborhoods should watch for signs and be prepared to move their vehicles. Cars that are parked on the street while crews are sweeping may receive a parking fine and possibly be towed at the owners expense.
The street sweeping program is on now until October 29th. Residents wanting to know when their neighborhood will be swept can CLICK HERE or download the City of Regina Sweep and Plow app.
