Every year for the past 20 years, Henley and Partners rank how powerful passports are from each country in terms of mobility. The company looks at 199 different passports from countries around the world and rank them based on how many other destinations holders can visit.
Together with the help of the International Air Transport Authority, the firm researches and develops a list of countries whose passports will get holders to the most destinations around the globe. This year’s top 10 list looks like this:
- Singapore (193 destinations)
- South Korea (190 Destinations)
- Japan (189 destinations)
- Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland (188 destinations)
- Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, and Ireland (187 destinations)
- Norway, New Zealand, Hungary, Greece, Portugal, and Sweden. (186 destinations)
- Australia, Czechia, Malta, and Poland (185 destinations)
- Croatia, Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom (184 destinations)
- Canada (183 destinations)
- Latvia and Lichtenstein (182 destinations)
For the first time since the global rankings have started, the United States slipped out of the top 10, falling to 12 on the list with 180 destinations. The least powerful passport belonged to Afghanistan with only 24 destinations available to its holders.
