ESTEVAN — Driving-related issues have kept members of the Estevan Police Service busy during the past couple of days.
Police attended to a single-vehicle collision in east Estevan on Oct. 22. A 49-year-old woman was transported to the police station, where a standard field sobriety test was conducted. According to the EPS, a drug recognition evaluator carried out a further investigation. A Regina woman was arrested for operating a conveyance while impaired by drug and is scheduled to speak to the charges in December.
That same day, the EPS received two separate reports of hit-and-run collisions. Suspects have been identified in both cases and investigations are ongoing.
Members were dispatched to north Estevan and later south Estevan following reports of a dirt bike being driven recklessly on city streets and walking paths. The rider was gone upon police arrival. The public is asked to contact the EPS with any further sightings of this or any other dirt bikes or all-terrain vehicles operating within city limits.
Members were called on two separate occasions regarding a suspicious person in a business parking lot. The caller was concerned the individual might have been in medical distress. Members attended, spoke with the person and asked the individual to leave the area. No further police action was required.
Police are investigating a report of fraud under $5,000.
Members responded to a collision in central Estevan on Oct. 21 that resulted in one of the vehicles being towed due to the damages sustained. No injuries were reported, and one driver was charged for leaving a stop sign before it was safe to do so under the Traffic Safety Act.
Officers were called to a central Estevan residence on a report of a female causing a disturbance. She was spoken to and left the area without further issue.
Police responded to a report of a young boy at someone’s door, claiming that his bicycle was stolen. Members attended and identified the suspect, who was immediately located on the bike. The complainant didn’t want anything further done, and a conflicting story was received from the suspect. The bike was returned to the complainant and the suspect was warned.
Officers were called to a building and seized a bike that the residence owner said was stolen. Furthermore, his roommate was reportedly storing the bike on the property and did not want it there.
Police attended a restaurant parking lot after receiving a call that occupants of two trucks had loudly banged on their door and squealed their tires while driving away. The occupants of the two trucks were spoken to and warned about their behaviour.
Police responded to a report of vehicle occupants using a laser pointer in another restaurant’s drive-thru. The suspect vehicle was located. In speaking with the occupants, it wasn’t believed to be accurate information and the investigation was concluded.
An intoxicated male attended the police station for assistance after being kicked out of his residence. Police determined the man would be lodged in EPS cells until sober.
