That was one for the ages last night.
Still replaying that epic 18-inning marathon in my head—so many what-ifs! I can’t help stop thinking about missed opportunities. It will be a memorable one but for me maybe for the wrong reasons. Some simple decisions and a few mental errors probably cost us the game. For those blaming Little…yes, he gave up the winning run but I would have never depleted the bullpen as quick as we did last night. Bassitt could of easily had his outing extended saving other arms for those high-pressure late innings. It’s tough to see the bullpen emptied out so fast in a game that ended up going the distance—and then some.. Managing the bullpen differently and sticking with Bassitt a bit longer could’ve made a difference in my opinion.
What really knocked my socks off was some of the terrible calls by the home plate umpire…..those wild strike zone calls? Hard for any hitter to stay disciplined when the zone keeps moving and that changed the dynamics of certain innings. There were many strikes at the bottom of the zone called balls and then there were some way above the strike zone called strikes? It changes the whole at bat at the time because batters have to start swinging at crap because there’s a good chance it will be called a strike. When batters can’t trust the zone, they’re forced to swing at pitches they’d normally lay off, just hoping the ump might see it their way.
Hope Springer recovers. His presence on and off the field will be missed greatly.
One for the history books, but this one stings. MUST SLEEP! oh right were going to do it again at 6pm!!! GO JAYS!!!
