LEADER — Update, Jan. 29, 2026: As a result of the continued investigation, on Jan. 26, Leader RCMP arrested a man in relation to a fire that destroyed a business in Leader in October 2025.
A 50-year-old man, from Calgary, Alta., is charged with:
- one count, arson with intent to defraud;
- one count, fraud over $5,000; and
- one count, arson – disregard for human life.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Leader on March 19.
Leader RCMP continue to investigate.
Original post, Oct 29, 2025: Leader RCMP are asking the public to report information about a suspicious fire that destroyed a business in Leader.
On Oct. 26 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Leader RCMP received a report of a structure fire at a business on First Avenue in Leader. Officers and local firefighters responded. The business was destroyed by the fire.
Leader RCMP have engaged fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency to assist with determining the cause and the origin of the fire. Based on evidence police have gathered, it’s believed the fire is suspicious in nature.
Officers will continue to investigate the fire and ask that members of the public report information about any suspicious people or vehicles they observed in and around Leader during the early morning hours of Oct. 26.
