REGINA — A 52-year old Regina man is in custody after a Wednesday evening incident that started with a report of an impaired driver and ended in the assault of two police officers.
Peter Fourhorns has been charged with multiple offences, including impaired driving, resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer, after police say he spat on and bit officers during his arrest.
According to Regina Police Service, at about 7:45p.m. on Oct. 29, police were called to the area of Saskatchewan Drive and Broad Street for a report of an impaired driver. When officers arrived, the vehicle was no longer in the area. They were able to locate it a short time later near Saskatchewan Drive and Winnipeg Street. Officers activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The driver did not stop but kept driving, slowly travelling up Victoria Avenue until it eventually turned south and stopped near Abbott Street.
When officers approached the vehicle, they observed two occupants inside. The driver was displaying multiple signs of impairment. When officers advised the driver he was under arrest, the driver began to resist being taken into custody. During the arrest, the driver spit on two of the officers and bit one of them.
The officers were treated on scene by EMS. The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained while being taken into custody.
Fourhorns is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, failing to comply with a probation order, driving while disqualified, and impaired driving.
He is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Dec. 3s.
