SASKATOON – Saskatchewan RCMP seized methamphetamine and unstamped cigarettes following a vehicle search near Saskatoon.
On Oct. 29 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch stopped a truck and trailer at the weigh scale on Highway 16 near Saskatoon. They found methamphetamine and unstamped tobacco and arrested the two adult male occupants of the truck.
Warman RCMP were engaged to continue the investigation. During a search of the truck and trailer, Warman RCMP observed three boxes containing methamphetamine, weighing approximately 46 kilograms. Officers note that the average dose of methamphetamine is 0.1 grams — meaning the seized boxes contained up to 460,000 individual doses. Officers also located 14 pallets containing approximately 4.2 million unstamped cigarettes.
The two men were taken into RCMP custody.
A 45-year-old man, from Brampton, and a 27-year-old man, from Georgetown, are each charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
- one count, possession of unstamped tobacco;
- one count, possess, store, transport or sell tobacco that is not marked in a prescribed manner; and
- one count, sell, offer for sale, transport, deliver, distribute, or have in his possession for the purpose of sale a tobacco product, or a raw leaf tobacco that is unstamped.
The two accused appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Oct. 30.
Warman RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT), who will further examine and process the seized items.
