ESTEVAN — An Estevan motorist is facing a hefty fine after being apprehended for travelling at a high rate of speed on Nov. 1.
According to a news release from the Estevan Police Service, members conducted a traffic stop on a driver observed to be operating his vehicle at 134 kilometres per hour in a 50 km/h zone.
The Estevan male driver had his licence suspended, his vehicle impounded for 30 days and received a summary offence ticket with a fine of $1,056.
The EPS also had a number of calls on Halloween.
A man was reported to be loitering and acting suspiciously at a bank’s ATM. EPS members attended, cautioned him regarding his behaviour and sent him on his way.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the south end of Estevan. A resolution was mediated which resulted in one of the parties leaving the residence for the night. No further issues were reported by those involved.
A second domestic disturbance resulted in a man being arrested for assault and lodged in cells until he was sober. The investigation is ongoing in this matter with additional witness statements to be obtained.
A man was reported to be behaving erratically and throwing things at parked vehicles in a trailer court in south-central Estevan. Members attended the area but were unable to locate him. No additional reports of property damage or continuing behaviour were received by the EPS.
A break and enter into an unoccupied residence was reported and remains under investigation.
No safety concerns related to Halloween night trick-or-treating were reported to EPS. Frontline patrol officers monitored residential areas during this time and interacted with many of the kids out enjoying the evening.
In other recent police news, the EPS received a report of a suspicious person going through yards in east Estevan on Oct. 30. Members attended to the area immediately following the report, but were unable to locate the individual. The EPS requests that residents report any suspicious people that are observed on private property or on security camera footage. An occurrence of this type often involves multiple addresses and calls may assist the police to identify suspects and solve subsequently reported property crimes.
An investigation into a reported theft has resulted in identifying a suspect. The individual was not immediately located by police and the investigation is ongoing.
The EPS says it has recently seen an increase in attempted scams via telephone. Police remind the public to be vigilant and not communicate with unsolicited calls requesting personal information.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance in south Estevan on Nov. 1. Police were able to mediate a resolution that included two of the parties from that residence leaving for the evening.
A man was reported by family members as being grossly intoxicated, causing damage to the door of their residence during a domestic disturbance and then leaving the scene. EPS members located the individual at a local convenience store a short time later and arrested him for public intoxication. He remained lodged in EPS cells until sober.
Police executed an arrest warrant on an Estevan man who was wanted on charges from the Regina Police Service. He was processed and released to appear in Regina Provincial Court at a later date.
The EPS received a report Nov. 2 of a possible impaired driver who was threatening to leave their residence and drive while intoxicated. Multiple patrols were made around the residence to deter the individual from leaving; the person subsequently remained at home for the night.
A written warning was issued to a youth noted to be driving aggressively in a business parking lot in the northeast area of Estevan. EPS members monitored the area for ongoing driving concerns during the shift, with no additional offences noted.
