REGINA – A 34-year-old Regina man is in custody and facing charges after a weekend break-in that led to a coordinated police response involving air, patrol, and canine units.
According to Regina Police Service, patrol officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Queen Street at about 2:10 a.m. on Nov. 2, following a report of a suspicious person inside a residential garage.
When officers arrived, the RPS Aerial Support Unit (ASU) was overhead and located the suspect. The ASU crew tracked the male in real-time as he fled the scene on foot. Officers observed the suspect hiding under a residential deck a short distance away.
Patrol officers and a Canine unit were directed to the exact location by the ASU. Police say the suspect didn’t comply with commands to surrender and come out from under a deck. The Police Service Dog was used to help apprehend the suspect and bit him. He was taken to hospital by EMS where he was treated for dog bite injuries.
He was charged with break and enter. He is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Dec. 16.
