LLOYDMINSTER – A routine traffic stop has resulted in a significant seizure of illegal drugs, an unauthorized firearm, and criminal charges for two Saskatchewan men.
On Oct. 30, Lloydminster RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop within the city. During the stop, police observed evidence leading to the arrest of the driver and passenger for possession of unstamped tobacco under the Excise Act.
A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 13 grams of cocaine, 23 grams of fentanyl, a quantity of Canadian currency, a 410 shotgun with a defaced serial number, and shotgun ammunition.
“This seizure demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Lloydminster RCMP to remove illegal drugs and firearms from our community,” said Sgt. Christopher Byford of the Lloydminster RCMP Detachment. “Our members remain focused on proactive enforcement efforts that enhance public safety.”
As a result of the investigation, Riley Lawlor, 33, of Regina, and Tanner McIvor, 20, of Gravelbourg were arrested and charged.
Lawlor faces sevral charges including two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, several weapons-related offences such as possession of a weapon contrary to an order and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and failure to comply with a release order.
McIvor has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and failing to comply with a probation order.
Following a hearing before a justice of the peace, Lawlor was remanded into custody. He was scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Nov. 3. McIvor was released on conditions and appears in court on Nov. 17.
