WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service responded to 82 calls for service during the week of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2.
Notable incidents during the week include:
Halloween night:
Police are pleased to report that Halloween night was event-free. Trick-or-treaters were well-behaved, and it was great to see nearly 40 children visit the Weyburn Police Service for candy.
Driving while impaired:
On Oct. 31, at approximately 11:10 p.m., police observed a vehicle leaving a local drinking establishment at a high rate of speed. Officers conducted a traffic stop and noted signs of alcohol consumption. The adult male driver failed a roadside alcohol screening device and was arrested for impaired driving and operating over .08. The driver later failed the Breathalyzer test at the Weyburn Police Service and was charged accordingly. He was released with a future court date.
On Nov. 2, in the early morning hours, police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Douglas Road. Officers also noted other driving behaviours that raised suspicion of impairment. A traffic stop was conducted, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated. The adult male driver failed a roadside alcohol screening device, was arrested for impaired driving and operating over .08, and subsequently failed the Breathalyzer test at the Weyburn Police Service. He was charged and released for a future court appearance.

The Weyburn Police Service would like to commend the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, and Weyburn RCMP for their excellent work in the investigation and subsequent arrest related to the fatal shooting of Tanya Myers. This tragic event has weighed heavily on our community, and it is hoped that this development will bring some measure of closure to Tanya’s family and friends.
