When Overwhelm Hits (and What Might Actually Help)
Let me be real for a minute, actually I’m always pretty real with you, so lets continue on with the realness: my to-do list is never-ending. Between work deadlines, trying to make sure my kids not only survive but hopefully thrive, and just keeping my mental health somewhere above water, it feels like I’m constantly juggling. But here’s the kicker—I finally get a moment alone, the list is right next to me, and I just… freeze. I stare at it. I get distracted. Sometimes, I just sit there in a daze, not knowing where to start. Does anyone else do this? Or is it just me?
I know the internet is full of advice—most of which I’m pretty sure I’ll hate—but I went digging anyway, hoping for a miracle.
Here’s what I found:
1. **Break it down:** Instead of tackling everything at once, just focus on one small thing you can do right now.
2. **Choose your top three:** Pick the three most important things for today. The rest can wait, seriously.
3. **Set a timer:** Work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. (Apparently, this is called the Pomodoro Technique. Who knew?)
4. **Celebrate the wins:** Even if it’s just answering an email or making the bed, give yourself some credit.
5. **Be gentle with yourself:** Some days, just showing up is enough. And that’s okay.
Okay, that actually wasn’t that bad. I really didn’t roll my eyes at any of this. Especially the work for 25 minutes then get up for 5 minutes. There are some days that I can sit in the studio for 5 solid hours without getting out of my seat, with the pace being break neck. If any of this resonates with you I’d love to know. Send me a text, 306-783-8622.
Good luck with your week!
