Many years ago in Saskatchewan it almost seemed impossible to think a children’s hospital could be built in Saskatchewan, but that dream has come true, thanks to the generosity of thousands of Saskatchewanians, businesses, organizations, and Jim Pattison himself. The Jim Pattison Children’s hospital (JPCH) has been up and running for over five years at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, but support is still required to ensure the latest medical technology can be upgraded or purchased to ensure top quality care is provided to Saskatchewan’s kids and families.
This year, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon, presented by CIBC Wood Gundy, on 620 CKRM will be supporting hearing health services including the otolaryngology and otology departments at the JPCH. Otolaryngologists are those who treat ear, nose, and throat problems, while Otologists specialize in complex issues of the ear. Each time a baby is born at the JPCH, he or she will undergo a hearing check to ensure there are no problems.
Last year, over 5,400 babies were born at the JPCH, which means the hearing health department is very busy. Every year, about 400 babies do not pass these hearing tests which then requires parents to visit an audiologist with their child to see what treatment is available.
The radiothon will run today and Thursday on 620 CKRM and on radio stations across Saskatchewan. Be listening to learn how you can help Saskatchewan’s kids and how your donation could be doubled thanks to the generosity of the David and Karen Holst Family Foundation. Just for your donation, you may win some incredible prizes along the way.
