ESTEVAN — An Estevan woman remains in custody after she was arrested and charged for drug offences for a second time this year.
Christina Strong was in Estevan Provincial Court on Nov. 3 for a show-cause hearing to determine if she would receive bail. After arguments from both the prosecution and defence attorneys, Judge Mitch Miller reserved his decision to the following day in Weyburn.
Miller ruled against bail on Nov. 4. Strong was remanded into custody for her next appearance on Nov. 10 in Estevan.
The evidence supplied during the show-cause hearing is protected by a publication ban.
Background: According to an EPS news release, Strong was initially charged in July with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. She was released and placed on conditions.
The EPS says it seized approximately $10,000 cash and cocaine with a street value estimated at $2,000.
Then in October, she was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and breach of a release order after an investigation into drug trafficking offences.
As part of the investigation, the EPS said a search warrant was authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and executed at a residence in south Estevan. During the search, police seized over $6,000 in cash, along with cocaine with an estimated street value of $8,400.
