Three new toys have been selected and honoured by the Toy Hall of Fame at the Stong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY.
Earlier this fall, a long list of toy nominees was released for the public to vote on. These included Battleship, Catan, Connect 4, Cornhole, Furby, Scooter, Slime, Snow, Spirograph, Star Wars Light Saber, Tickle Me Elmo, and Trivial Pursuit. However, only three of those toys can be inducted each year.
Through a combination of votes from the public and a panel of experts, the three toys selected for induction in 2025 are Trivial Pursuit, Slime, and Battleship. Trivial Pursuit was invented by two Canadians, Chris Haney and Scott Abbott, in 1979 in Montreal and since then have sold millions of games. Selection of toys is based not just on popularity, but their enduring impact on creative play.
The induction ceremony took place Thursday evening at the museum in Rochester, NY, which has been inducting toys since 1998. Other toys inducted over the years include baseball cards, Nerf toys, Cabbage Patch Kids, and Chess, among others.
