SASKATOON – A 40-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving, driving while being pursued by police, and injuring a law enforcement animal after police attempted a traffic stop in the city’s west end.
Just before 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, police tried to stop a vehicle near 22nd Street West and Avenue F South in the Riversdale neighbourhood. The vehicle fled in a dangerous manner, and police stopped the pursuit, say Saskatoon Police Service in a media release.
Minutes later, officers located the vehicle parked on 18th Street in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood. Police say the driver ran from the vehicle and a police service dog was used to track the suspect and, after a short chase, capture him. As the canine officer was trying to make the arrest, police sa,y the subject punched and kicked the police dog several times and the officer twice. Additional officers arrived on scene and the man was arrested without further incident.
