The Saskatchewan Roughriders are Grey Cup champions for a fifth time in franchise history and it has made fans in Rider Nation eager to see the cup.
The Grey Cup and the team will be arriving in Regina on Monday to a hero’s welcome, which means fans can get a glimpse of the cup at Mosaic Stadium starting at 1:30 p.m. today. The event begins near SaskTel Gate 3 at the stadium, however there won’t be time for pictures with the cup or autographs with players. It’s an opportunity to cheer on the green and white, see the Grey Cup in the hands of the team, and hear some short speeches. The Roughriders organization says parking will be available in the parking lot for fans.
Tuesday will be a busier day for Rider Nation as a parade is planned through the city to the Legislature starting at 2 p.m. along the “green mile.” According to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, fans should be lined up along Albert Street between 13th Ave and 20th Ave downtown Regina to see the parade, which will include Royal Canadian Armed Forces vehicles and, of course, the Riders and the Grey Cup.
After the parade, a special ceremony is planned on the front steps at the Legislature featuring speeches from Head Coach Corey Mace and Quarterback Trevor Harris. The event is expected to last for about one hour and parking will not be available in front of the Legislature. Fans are encouraged to park elsewhere.
