SASKATOON — Two women have been arrested and charged in connection with the 2024 homicide of Timothy Tootoosis, bringing the total number of people charged to seven.
On Nov. 9, 43-year-old Destini Gardypie and 34-year-old Nakita Tootoosis were taken into custody by Saskatchewan RCMP on outstanding warrants issued by the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS). Both women were transported back to Saskatoon and placed under SPS arrest.
Gardypie has been charged with first-degree murder and unlawful confinement. Tootoosis faces a manslaughter charge. They have since appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court and were remanded pending their next appearance.
Their arrests follow charges laid earlier this month against five others.
Vernon Peequaquat, Emmery Aubichon, Michael McCallum Michael Landry and Donovan Lemstra are all charged with first-degree murder, offering an indignity to human remains, and unlawful confinement.
The investigation started on Dec. 18, 2024, when Saskatoon police found a man dead while executing a search warrant at a home in the in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood of the city, in 1700 block of 22nd West. The victim was later identified as Tootoosis.
