The heartbeat of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies' defence now has national recognition.
Fifth-year linebacker and Saskatchewan Roughriders draft pick Seth Hundeby has been awarded the U Sports President’s Trophy, presented annually to the top defensive player in Canadian university football. It’s an honour that reflects not only elite production but the impact of a player whose presence can tilt the field.
Hundeby was nothing short of dominant this season. In just seven starts, he piled up 41.5 tackles, including 35 solo stops—good for sixth in Canada West and 14th in the nation. His ability to disrupt plays behind the line of scrimmage made him a constant problem for opposing offences.
The Saskatoon native led Canada West with six tackles for loss and three forced fumbles, added three sacks, and turned in two interceptions, showcasing the all-around versatility that has become his trademark.
The conference took notice early and often. Hundeby earned Canada West Outstanding Defensive Player honours, was named a Canada West All-Star, and twice claimed Defensive Player of the Week.
For a Huskies team built on toughness, consistency, and discipline, Hundeby embodied the standard every step of the way, and now, the entire country knows it.
The President’s Trophy caps a standout university career and adds another impressive chapter to the story of a homegrown player who continues to represent Saskatchewan football with pride.
The next stop: his return to Roughriders training camp, where expectation and opportunity await in the spring.
