YORKTON — A long-serving Yorkton city councillor is being recognized on the national stage for her decades of work in municipal leadership.
Councillor Randy Goulden has earned an Honourable Mention in the 2025 Local Government Awards, presented by Municipal World.
The national acknowledgement highlights her contributions to municipal governance, community development and advocacy at the local, provincial and federal levels.
Goulden was first elected to Yorkton City Council in 1997 and has spent nearly three decades shaping the city’s growth and long-term planning.
Over the years, she has worked across numerous portfolios and committees, helping guide Yorkton through economic development, recreation planning and community partnerships.
She currently serves as president of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) representing cities, towns and villages across the province. Her work with SUMA has focused on strengthening provincial–municipal relationships, improving community safety and supporting governance reforms.
At the national level, she has chaired the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Standing Committee on Community Safety and Crime Prevention and the National Rail Safety Committee.
Outside of council chambers, Goulden is known for her volunteer work and involvement in arts, tourism and sport. She has worked with Tourism Yorkton and the Yorkton Film Festival, served as chair of the Tourism Saskatchewan board and led both the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association as well as the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association.
Her volunteer commitments span everything from the Saskatchewan Games and the World Junior Hockey Challenge to the Yorkton Music Festival, figure skating, dance, Rotary Club activities and early-years education groups. She also chaired Yorkton’s Vancouver Olympic Torch Run celebrations and helped guide a Royal Visit to the community.
“Thank you to Municipal World for this recognition,” Goulden said in a statement. “It has been an honour to serve the people of Yorkton and to work with so many dedicated partners at the municipal, provincial and national levels. Municipal leadership is a collective effort, and I share this acknowledgement with the community volunteers, organizations and colleagues who work every day to strengthen our city.”
Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle said the recognition reflects Goulden’s long-standing impact both locally and across Canada.
“On behalf of City Council and the residents of Yorkton, I want to congratulate Councillor Randy Goulden on this well-deserved Honourable Mention,” Kienle said. “Her leadership has contributed greatly to Yorkton’s success. Her dedication, energy and commitment to partnership have strengthened our community for decades, and Yorkton is incredibly proud of her.”
The city says it is grateful for Goulden’s continued leadership and the profile she brings to Yorkton through her work in municipal government.
