REGINA – On a day normally associated with Black Friday holiday shopping, folks at the Legislature were busy getting ready for the holiday season.
Staff at the Legislature were hard at work Nov. 28 putting up the giant Christmas tree that is usually a hallmark of the Christmas season in the rotunda.
Putting up the tree and all the decorations was an all day job, with the various tree branches put in place throughout the day.
The location is right underneath the Dome, in an area of the rotunda that on most days is usually uncovered. Normally, visitors at that spot are able to look down to the Saskatchewan Gallery below where the official portraits of former Premiers of Saskatchewan are located. The green artificial-turf base for the tree had been installed over top of that spot earlier this week.
The tree installation took place on a quiet Friday at the Legislature with most MLAs having gone back home to their constituencies for the weekend. It should be ready in time for Monday when MLAs return to business for one more week.
Next week marks the final week of the session before the Legislative Assembly takes its usual winter break. The legislature will sit for all five days next week with the final day being Dec. 5. The legislature will then be on break until the session resumes in March.
