WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) has announced charges against a man for uttering threats.
Police responded to a report Nov. 24 of a man entering a local government building and uttering a threat to cause harm to a woman. He fled prior to police arrival. The WPS says the man was later located, arrested without incident and released with conditions.
Officers were dispatched Nov. 26 to a domestic disturbance at a residence. A man had fled the scene before police arrived. According to the WPS, an investigation determined he assaulted a woman during an argument. The WPS says it continues to search for the accused, has obtained a warrant for his arrest and strongly encourages him to turn himself in. No other details were immediately available.
While walking through a bar Nov. 28, the WPS says officers observed a patron who appeared to be underage. He was detained after he was unable to produce identification or provide a correct birthdate. He was confirmed to be 16 years old and was charged with being a youth in possession of cannabis, which carries a $300 fine, and for being in a permitted premise. The investigation is ongoing and the business may also face charges, as these are Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act offences. Due to the youth’s level of intoxication, he was released to a parent.
While patrolling drinking establishments early on Nov. 29, police located a highly intoxicated man outside in the cold. He was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells until sober. With the extremely cold temperatures, the WPS says it was fortunate that officers located him before he wandered out of sight and became at risk of hypothermia.
With temperatures dropping, police remind friends, patrons and staff at licensed establishments, staff Christmas and house parties to look out for each other and ensure everyone gets home safely.
On Nov. 29 and 30, police responded to several disturbances at multiple drinking establishments involving intoxicated individuals arguing or becoming disruptive around VLT machines. Alcohol was a contributing factor in all events. The WPS says officers successfully de-escalated every situation without the need for charges or arrests, ensuring all involved individuals made it home safely.
The WPS responded to 75 calls for service from Nov. 23-30.
