WEYBURN — What was scheduled to be a preliminary hearing for two men charged in connection with a drug bust in Stoughton in August 2024 turned into pleas and sentencing.
Paul Ryan Englot and his son Jyron were in Weyburn Provincial Court on Dec. 5 for an inquiry on whether there was enough evidence for them to stand trial on drugs and firearms charges. But instead each man entered pleas and was sentenced as per the terms of a joint submission.
Paul Englot pleaded guilty to one count each of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a firearm when prohibited.
Stayed charges included single counts of drug trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and careless use or storage of a firearm, and three counts of violating the terms of a release order.
Jyron Englot pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking. Charges stayed include possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon, careless storage of a firearm and violating the terms of a release order.
Both men were sentenced to time served and they received a 10-year firearms prohibition. As of their most recent appearance in October, Jyron Englot was in custody while Paul Englot was out on conditions.
