LITTLE PINE FIRST NATION – Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit has charged a man after a murder and aggravated assault on Little Pine First Nation.
On Dec. 8, 2025, at approximately 8 p.m., Cut Knife RCMP received a report of injured individuals at a residential property on Little Pine First Nation.
Cut Knife RCMP officers responded immediately and located two injured people. Additional officers from Cut Knife and Unity RCMP also attended the scene. Police officers began administering first aid. EMS attended and transported one adult to hospital with injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening.
A man was declared deceased by EMS at the residence. He has been identified as 43-year-old Tyrone Kakum, from Little Pine First Nation. His family has been notified.
RCMP officers arrested a man at the scene. As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Keenan Starr, from Little Pine First Nation, is charged with one count, second-degree murder, and one count, aggravated assault.
Starr appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Dec. 10.
