FRENCHMAN BUTTE – Saskatchewan RCMP officers charged a woman after they seized illicit drugs and a loaded rifle from a vehicle that fled from them.
On Dec. 5 at around 3:10 p.m., RCMP officers from Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan observed a vehicle speeding near Frenchman Butte. They attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect vehicle did not stop and attempted to flee, but slid into the ditch. Two individuals exited the vehicle and ran into the tree line.
RCMP officers contained the area and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services was engaged to assist. Shortly after, a female suspect was arrested without incident. The second suspect was not located.
Following further investigation, a firearm was located hidden in the trees. Officers searched the vehicle and located the following:
- approximately 44 grams of crack/cocaine
- approximately 65 grams of methamphetamine
- a loaded rifle
- drug trafficking paraphernalia
It was later determined the suspect vehicle was stolen.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old woman, from Saskatoon, is charged with:
- two counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking;
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- two counts, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle;
- one count, resist/obstruct peace officer;
- three counts, weapons/firearms possession contrary to order;
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11.
