REGINA — Two men are facing charges after an armed robbery in Regina on Thursday night in the Churchill Downs neighbourhood.
Regina Police Service say the incident happened on Dec. 11. At about 8:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man carrying a firearm and running near 9thAvenue North and Broad Street. The caller told police the suspect got into a waiting vehicle before it drove away. While officers were on their way, a second report came in that a business in the area had been robbed at gunpoint. The suspect fled with cash and cigarettes.
Police later located the suspect vehicle near 8th Avenue North and Ottawa Place. When they attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle sped away. Police didn’t pursue. A short distance away, the driver lost control and the vehicle became stuck on the sidewalk.
Before police arrived, the passenger fled the scene. The driver was arrested without further incident. Officers searched the area and found the second suspect hiding in a nearby yard. A firearm, cash, and cigarettes were recovered from the vehicle.
Darian Goforth-Laplante, 29, is charged with armed robbery, pointing a firearm, flight from police, and dangerous driving.
Anthony Bellegarde, 33, is charged with armed robbery, failing to comply with conditions, and breach of conditions.
Goforth-Laplante and Bellegarde appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Friday.
