SASKATOON – A preliminary hearing for Johnathan Ouellet-Gendron, 36, is scheduled for April 2026 in Saskatoon Provincial Court to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial in the death of Brandon Baxandall.
Ouellet-Gendron is charged with first-degree murder for the May 2022 shooting death of Baxandall in Saskatoon.
Court documents reveal that at the time of Baxandall's murder, Ouellet-Gendron was released while facing charges of illegally having a .45 handgun obtained through crime, four forged driver’s licenses, and trafficking cocaine. He still faces those charges in court.
He was arrested in September at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport while attempting to re-enter Canada from Mexico.
In 2023, Ouellet-Gendron was added to the BOLO Program’s list of Canada’s top 25 most wanted fugitives, ranking 10th.
