WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) has announced three charges against a man following a domestic disturbance.
On Dec. 11, the WPS received a report of the incident. Upon police arrival, a man had already left the residence. Through investigation, the WPS said it was determined that the man could be arrested for uttering threats and assault.
Moments later, the WPS said he arrived back at the residence and after a brief struggle with police, he was taken into custody. He was charged with assault, uttering threats and resisting arrest. The WPS said the man was released from custody with a future court date and several conditions.
On the evening of Dec. 12, police were conducting patrols throughout the city and observed a vehicle travelling without lights. According to the WPS, a traffic stop was completed, and the WPS suspected the driver had alcohol in their body. An approved screening device demand was made, which resulted in the driver recording a warning. As a result, the driver received a seven-day licence suspension.
Police also responded to vehicle collisions on highways running through Weyburn and on several other routes within the city. The WPS said the majority of the collisions were caused due to icy conditions. Police reported that none of the collisions resulted in injuries.
Due to the winter driving conditions, the WPS reminds the public to give themselves more time when on the roads and to travel at speeds that are safe for the conditions.
Due to the severe weather conditions over the week and the upcoming forecast, the WPS says sidewalks have become quite icy. The City of Weyburn bylaw requires property and business owners to ensure safe passage on the walkways or sidewalks, and prohibits moving the snow onto streets or other sidewalks. The WPS also asks property and business owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property.
The WPS responded to 59 calls for service during the period of Dec. 7-14, resulting in 13 charges. Seven were under the Criminal Code and six were under the Traffic Safety Act.
Anyone with information regarding any matter of a criminal nature is asked to contact the WPS at 306-848-3250, the local RCMP detachment at 310-7267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
