SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN — A freezing rain warning is now in effect for much of southern Saskatchewan.
The warning covers the cities of Regina and Moose Jaw, as well as communities within 113 RMs. Some areas facing the freezing rain warning are also subject to a blizzard warning.
“A few hours of freezing rain, at times heavy, are expected this morning and early this afternoon, before precipitation transitions to snow and blowing snow early this evening,” Environment Canada said in the warning. “Some areas will be above freezing and will only experience rain.”
One or two millimetres of freezing rain is expected, Environment Canada said. Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery.
Also, a wind warning has been issued for southwest Saskatchewan due to very strong wind gusts of 90-100 kilometres per hour that might cause damage. The winds are expected to begin early in the afternoon and continue into the evening.
“A strong Alberta clipper will move through the region beginning this morning, bringing gusty winds to portions of southwestern Saskatchewan. Rain and freezing rain today, as well as snow this evening, will accompany strong winds. Reduced visibilities in blowing snow in the evening will also be a risk.”
SaskToday will have updates as they become available.
