BROADVIEW – The identity of a man killed in a collision between two semis on a stormy day near Broadview has been revealed as a Go Fund Me page has started for the family.
Inderjit Singh, 33, who lost his life in a truck road accident on Highway 1, east of Broadview, leaves behind his family — his wife, two young daughters, and his mother in India.
The Go Fund Me Page says he was their "source of love, stability, and support, and his sudden loss has created an overwhelming emotional and financial burden for them."
"We are seeking support to help the family during this devastating time. Funds raised will go toward sending Inderjit’s body to India so his family can perform his funeral and final rites according to their traditions," the page organizers said.
RCMP reported on Dec. 18 that Broadview RCMP are investigating the fatal collision that involved two semis.
On Dec. 17 at approximately 2:25 p.m., Broadview RCMP received a report of a collision near the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 201, approximately two kilometres east of Broadview.
Officers responded immediately, along with local EMS. The investigation determined two semis collided. A third semi then left the roadway; investigators are determining whether it was also involved in the collision or took evasive action to avoid it.
The driver of one of the semis involved in the initial collision was declared dead at the scene by EMS. He has been identified as a 33-year-old man from Winnipeg, Man. His family has been notified.
The driver and passenger in the other semi involved in the initial collision were taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
The driver of the third semi did not report injuries to police.
Highway 1 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened, police reported on Dec. 18.
Broadview RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
