REGINA — Saturday night, the 27th Annual CPKC Holiday Train rolls into Regina, stopping at 6 p.m. beside the old Mosaic Stadium along North Railway Street. Families, neighbours and first-time visitors will gather to see rail cars wrapped in thousands of lights and to hear live music from country group Lanco and singer Tiera Kennedy.
The train isn’t just a spectacle. When it stops, the city pauses. Phones come out for photos, kids sit on shoulders, strangers share space, and for a brief moment, winter feels lighter. The show is short but electric, spreading cheer before the train heads to Moose Jaw later in the evening.
The Holiday Train is also a call to give. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or cash donations for Regina’s food banks. Over nearly three decades, the train has collected millions of pounds of food and millions of dollars for communities across North America.
Organizers advise arriving early, dressing warmly, and being patient. The stop is brief, but the impact lasts long after the lights disappear down the tracks.
Tomorrow night, Regina gets something rare: warmth without walls, music without tickets, and a reminder that even in the cold, community shows up.
